A second reading for Joe Landwehr's latest book Astrology and the Archetypal Power of Numbers, Part One, took place on Friday March 18, at the Yellow House Community Arts Centers in West Plains, Missouri, not far from where the author lives.
For those of you who were unable to be there, we have included here a recording - scroll to the end.
Not everything that can be counted counts,
and not everything that counts can be counted.
- Albert Einstein (or someone like him)
This book is written for non-astrologers, and touches on many issues of interest to us all:
- what it means to be human
- how human history is our collective attempt to align ourselves - successfully or not - with the intelligence of the natural world, and
- how numbers can help us to more consciously access this intelligence in a participatory universe where our survival as as species, and as a planet, depends upon it.
Part One weaves together ideas from spiritual psychology, mythology, and astrology with social commentary, history, environmental politics, and personal experience to create a visceral sense of the numbers from 0 to 9.
Using the teachings of Pythagoras as a point of departure, Joe explores the relationship between numbers, our collective evolution and the anima mundi at the heart of the world.
About this book, Dr. Mark Arnold, Associate Professor of Mathematics, University of Arkansas - Fayetteville, says this:
How can you take a tour of the counting numbers, each in turn, and yet have the sense that you have been exploring the very nonlinear reaches of a fractal galaxy? Yes we begin at 0 and progress linearly through 9, but this as a framework for a very nonlinear, enlightening and sometimes breathtaking journey through the landscape of humanness.
